The name flamingo comes from the Spanish word 'flamenco’ or flame; the pink or orange color of the birds is understood to be pigments from their diet of shrimp, algae and crustaceans. Often found standing on one leg to conserve body heat, flamingos spend most of their time cleaning their feathers with a special oil that is spread with the help of their beaks These beautiful birds are a sight to behold in flight and a symbol of fun and relaxation
